ABOUT TOMFOOLERY

TOMFOOLERY is a hilarious musical revue based on satirical songs written (and originally performed) by Tom Lehrer, and is a piece of musical theater like no other. Five talented performers combine to sing and dance their way through his repertoire, and no one is spared the barb of Mr. Lehrer's razor-sharp wit!

In concerts, television appearances and a series of now-classic recordings, the Harvard-educated math professor delighted millions of fans during the 1950's and 1960's with his dry, cynical but good-humored attacks on subjects like racism, nuclear war, pollution, pornography, the military, religious icons, the Boy Scouts and, of course, mathematics. Although he hasn't written any new songs or performed in public for many years, his timeless words still have the ring of truth to them.

Transformed in 1980 into this delightful musical revue by Cats/Phantom of the Opera producer Cameron Mackintosh and his associate, Robin Ray, TOMFOOLERY has helped to keep the "legend of Lehrer" alive and well into the new millennium!

Nothing is sacred in this revue featuring such Lehrer favorites as "Poisoning Pigeons In The Park", "When You Are Old and Grey", "The Masochism Tango," "Send The Marines," "The Vatican Rag" and an unforgettable Gilbert and Sullivan-esque recitation of the table of the chemical elements, linked together with his own inimitable concert patter.
